Catching Up: Week 5

I'm so glad that Week 7 is catch up week. Summer Reading has been kicking my butt for the last couple of weeks, and even though I'm doing the 23 Things at home, I've been too tired to want to do library "homework" over the last two weeks.

That said, I'm still enjoying the 23 Things program :)

As I write this, I am listening to Science Fair by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson thanks to the technological help of OverDrive. It sounds like it will be yet another brilliant collaboration by these two authors :) Now, I just have to convince myself to listen to it.

I'm one of the few people who don't like audio books. Downloading them is easy. I can put them on my mp3 player. Now, I can even put them on my ipod-yay! I can use them in the car. But I just don't like them. I'm like the antagonist from Green Eggs and Ham. I do not like them in a boat, I will not use them with a goat. I do not like them, Sam-I-Am, I do not like green audio books and ham!

Mostly, I just don't like that I can read the book SO much faster. Anyway, I remember OverDrive taking much longer and being more complicated when I tried it 3-4 years ago, so I'm glad it's gotten easier--or I have just gotten more tech savvy :)

  1. Wow - I'm impressed that you had success with OverDrive - we definitely heard from some disgruntled and frustrated librarians about that service. Hopefully it'll get even more smoothed out so that everyone can use it with ease.

I'm not that into audio books myself, other than when I'm at the beach. I like them there because then I can just lay back, shut my eyes and enjoy the warm sun, cool breeze and sand between my toes without worrying about ruining a library book!

  2. It's interesting to me that so many of us just don't like them, and have tech troubles with them. Makes me wonder what our patrons are thinking...is it just us, being old-fashioned? Or do they prefer the print, too?

It's a conundrum. On the one hand, you want to be a 21st-century library. On the other hand, you don't want to be shiny solely for the sake of being shiny!
